It's about time. Construction on new houses is way up. Seems like everyday we are going into subdivisions that have lain unfinished for the last 5 yrs. and pumping out 4-5 fairly large floor plans. It's good to see it happening but I wonder how long this gravy train will last, probably right up to the owners first mortgage payment. Anyway, enough cynicism. Work has definitely picked up. We are averaging around 40-48 hrs a week. Well, most of us anyway have the luxury of having it spread out over 6 days and not 4 like a co-worker did this week. He was off Wed. and Thurs., 2 of our busiest days. I think mgmt. wanted the new trainees to get a few more hours behind the wheel as they are now out of trucks to assign, so my buddy didn't have a truck to drive anyway...! I told him Sat. morning that they will gladly make up his shortfall in hours today with a really long day and then call him in early on Mon. morning. It actually made him laugh, bitterly, but he laughed! It's now getting to the point where I tell my batchman, 'See you in 36 hours...'. Needless to say he was not that amused, even less so when it proved I was right! He, too, laughed bitterly.
Shameless plug, go to 7generationgames.com and contribute to Dr. DeMars company to help develop educational programming, math in particular, for our kids.
Hopefully soon I will sit down with our sales manager as well as our customers to start bringing you the behind-the-scenes look at concrete as well as the industry in general. I am, however, going to be very busy soon as I just made a large financial investment in regards to starting my own business, so posts here may not come often but I will try to do something at least once a week. Please bear with me. There are a lot of new things going on in my life right now and even though this blog is one of them, it certainly is not a means by which I can eat.
Have patience with me and I will try to bring to life something that most people simply take for granted...concrete.
Bye for now, Greg.
P.S. "WASH IT OUT!!!"
